When Priyanka Chopra Slept in a 'cage'

Priyanka Chopra is a superstar now and has adapted really well with the way the industry functions. However, coming from a small town like Barielly wasn't an easy task for her.

From being stalked to eating in toilets, Priyanka Chopra makes a few startling revelations about her past.

From being stalked by a stranger to being locked up in an iron cage in her own house by her parents and being forced to wear only salwar kurtas, Priyanka reveals what all she has gone through in the past.

Going down memory lane, this 27-year-old actor recollects and reveals about her experience in USA where she had gone to study. Priyanka says, "It was a huge culture shock for me when I went to study for three years in Boston at the age of 13. I would never enter the cafeteria simply because I didn't know how to stand in the line, where to pay money and how to take the food laid out. I didn't want to look like an idiot, so I used to take chips from the vending machine and eat them in the toilet. That is how I managed for three years."

Priyanka also reveals that her popularity in Barielly reached such great heights after returning from the US and winning a local beauty pageant called 'May Queen' that her parents had to get her bed protected by iron rods to keep their daughter safe.

Priyanka says, "When I was in the 12th standard and was just turning 17, an incident took place. My room was at a higher floor in Barielly and at night, a guy came to my balcony from our terrace. I didn't know him but he was peeping through the window. I was scared. So, I went to my dad and said 'Papa mere kamre ke bahar koi aa gaya hai, koi khatkhata raha hai' ('Papa, someone has come outside my room, someone is knocking'). The next day, my parents got the house and my bed barricaded with wrought iron rods like a cage. If a fire would have broken out in the house, we would have been burnt to death as there was no escape route."

When she got back from the US, Priyanka had landed at the Delhi airport wearing a really short dress. That created a ruckus.

The actor tells Farah Khan on her chat show Tere Mere Beach Mein, "I was not allowed to wear short skirts after that. Even my jeans were confiscated and 12 salwar kurtas were made for me. I was told that I'm only supposed to wear that because whenever I used to go to school, the guys used to follow me."

She adds that though she liked the attention that she got, she used to have a group of guy friends who would behave like her bodyguards. They were the only boys that she was allowed to talk to.
