Sonam Kapoor in an international film

Director Jagmohan Mundra, known for directing hard-hitting social awareness films, has Sonam in mind for a film titled Baanj. A story of a woman ostracized by society on not being able to conceive was written by Naresh Chandra 15 years ago. Mundra, who has bought the rights of the film, feels Sonam would be perfect for the part. The screenplay of the original was written by one of India’s most influential playwrights, the late Vijay Tendulkar. The story of the original is about a woman who feels she has a problem conceiving when it is actually the husband who is impotent. She eventually falls in love with another man and gets intimate with him to get pregnant.

She realizes it then, and the climax gives rise to a number of irreparable consequences which shape the crux of the story. Jagmohan confirmed to the press, ‘I want someone who can fit in as a college girl, a wife as well as pull off the role of a battered woman with equal ease. Sonam’s name is the first one to come to mind. I hope she agrees to do the project, because she will be an asset to the movie.’A source close to the director added, “Jag is fascinated by Sonam’s ability to mould herself into a role and transform into two different types of characters with ease. He loved her performance in Delhi 6 and feels she’ll play the role of an innocent college girl transforming into a woman scorned with ease.

He’s approached her as of now and is waiting for Sonam to give him the go ahead. With the type of visuals he has in mind, the film will surely see Sonam in an all new light and avatar.”Jag has in the past made such distinguished international films such as Provoked with Ash and Shoot On Sight with Naseerudin Shah.
