Where’s Kareena in 3 Idiots posters?

It’s not every day that a star readily agrees to be kept out of a film’s promotion. But Kareena Kapoor is not cut up about not featuring in the first posters of Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots that will make their appearance around the country on Sunday. A source from the unit tells us that along with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, director Hirani has been regularly discussing the concept with Aamir Khan and Kareena for the last couple of months. And it was decided that since the campus caper basically revolves around three guys (played by Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi) and was titled 3 Idiots, Kareena should be kept out, despite playing an equally important role.

According to our source, Kareena understands the essence of the film and has no issues on the subject. “Vidhu and Raju also know that Kareena is a big draw at the box office whose fan-following has increased since Jab We Met. So another poster with Kareena was also designed. But eventually, it was decided to go with the first promotions, without her, to avoid confusing the viewer,” says the source. “And even though Kareena had no problems, her producer and director had plenty of second and third thoughts.”

Eventually, at 3.30 am on Thursday, they took the final call, since printing had to begin by Thursday morning. The decision was communicated to Kareena before the go-ahead was given.Hirani confirmed the dilemma: “It was a huge decision to go without Kareena Kapoor but we took it after deciding to go the 3 Idiots route.”
