Bipasha Basu to get real with prostitute

portraying an unconventional character in Pankh, the actress is yet another working with director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya. This time Bips would be playing a prostitute living in Kolkata’s largest red light area called Sonagachi.

In the movie, Bipasha nurses a child, who is a victim of pedophilia. Sudipto is leaving no stones unturned to make his movie as realistic as possible. The grapevine suggests that the filmmaker has roped in some real-life prostitutes who will play themselves in the movie.

Pankh narrates a story about a little boy in the film industry who masquerades as a girl to become a child star but later faces an identity crisis and eventually turns into a drug abuser.

I want to be a Villain now: Shreyas

After getting recognition in both serious as well as comedy films, actor Shreyas Talpade now wants to play a villain.

"I did try my hands playing a negative character in Aggar, but the film didn't work well. However, I havent played a full-fledged negative role so far. In fact, I am now looking for the role of a villain. I have been experimenting with myself. And this is the only thing which is left and I will do that as well," Talpade says.

After delivering hit comedies like Apna Sapna Money Money, Golmal Returns and Welcome to Sajjanpur, he will once again be seen in another laugh riot Paying Guest opposite bikini-girl Celina Jaitley.

Talking about his role in the film where he disguises himself as a housewife to stay as a paying guest, the 33-year-old actor said that its challenging for anyone to play a woman with enough of conviction. "Even the make-up used to take a long time. I took almost two to three hours to get ready," he says.

Directed by scriptwriter-turned-director Paritosh Painter, the film revolves around four young boys - Shreyas Talpade, Aashish Choudhary, Javed Jafferi and Vatsal Sheth who are looking for an accommodation. The film also stars Neha Dhupia and Riya Sen.

When asked about the secret behind his not being stereotyped as an actor, he says, "I dont know the reason. I am fortunate enough to have got all kinds of roles and worked with all kinds of directors. I am happy that everyone has a role for me which they think will suit me".

But is doing a slapstick comedy equally challenging as playing a 'bahurupia' the one he played in Nagesh Kukunoors Dor?

"Yes. I love films. For me, a film is a film and it doesn't matter which category it falls into. You have to put in the same kind of effort for both. Comedy is actually a little more difficult because it is difficult to make people genuinely laugh. And as long as I am enjoying it, I will keep doing it," the actor, who is liked by audiences and critics alike said.

Describing Dor as his best work, he says that each of his films has taken him a step forward in life.

On reports that he would be playing legendary singer Kishore Kumar in Kukunoors next film, he says, "There have been rumours like this. Nothing is final so far. But that would be really challenging for any actor to play Kishore da, as he is still a legend."

Director Mehul Kumar's daughter Jahaan turns Heroine

She played the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Prada in "Kohraam" a decade ago. Now Jahan Bloch is all set to debut as heroine in "Krantiveer - The Revolution", being directed by dad Mehul Kumar. "In my earlier years when I got an opportunity to play Amitabh Bachchan's daughter, I was very comfortable in front of the camera. Same is the case today as well when I'm playing a full-fledged character," Jahan, the latest to join the celebrity kids bandwagon, said. "Kohraam" (1999) was directed by Mehul Kumar. The original 1994 "Krantiveer", also directed by Mehul Kumar, starred Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Mamta Kulkarni and Atul Agnihotri. For 21-year-old Jahan, it was a childhood dream to become an actress. "Call it (in) the genes and being part of a filmy family, but ever since I can remember I always wanted to be an actress. I must have been three-years-old when I spoke to dad about becoming an actress," she said. The newcomer says she didn't feel the need to join any acting classes. "Frankly, I didn't see any need for that. I come from a family that has made movies for decades; so why not learn straight from them? My on-the-job training started at home itself as I used to visit my dad's set on a regular basis. I just wanted to study the overall atmosphere of filmmaking," she said. "Krantiveer - The Revolution", a sequel to Mehul Kumar's "Krantiveer", features Jahan as Nana Patekar's fiery daughter. She plays a journalist who raises her voice against terrorism, violence and corruption. Isn't that too heavy a subject for a newcomer like her? "I feel 99 percent of the actresses debut with romantic films. I asked myself if I too wanted to follow a conventional approach and the answer was 'no'," said Jahan. "I wanted to do something far more challenging because it makes you work harder. Also, though the risks are bigger, the benefits are much higher. I don't want to be monotonous and instead demonstrate my calibre by playing a role that other actresses out there would possibly get after working in five or six films," she added. "Krantiveer - the Revolution" features Samir Aftab opposite Jahan. The film has music by Sachin and Jigar and Mehul Kumar is aiming for a September-October release.

I love being in Love: Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor is hooked on to the idea of being in love. She gave a glimpse of her sensitive side recently when she was asked about her role in her forthcoming movie Kambakkht Ishq.he says, "My character in the movie hates men and is against love. She is a hardened feminist who thinks men are dogs. I'm not anything like her in real life. I am neither a feminist nor a tough nut to crack. I'm not insensitive to my partner's feelings." She adds, "I love the idea of being in love and I cannot be rude or harsh to anyone."

Kareena plays the role of supermodel Simrita, who is a feminist in the movie. She locks horns with her co-star Akshay Kumar in a battle of sexes.

"I love the part when this hard-hearted girl actually falls in love with Akshay. My character goes through change like any other person in real life and the change is quite realistic."

Incidentally this is Kareena's seventh film with Akshay. She says, "I know Akshay from his first shot in Bollywood. He has done more than 10 films with my sister (Karisma Kapur). He is my favourite co-star by a long way. I feel so comfortable and relaxed to act with him that shooting becomes fun."

Kareena has also changed her body type for the movie. "The role required me to be fuller and more style-conscious and I have done exactly that. It's very challenging to change your body type but as an actor that's what you want to do - always challenge yourself," she says.

She ends by saying, "Tashan required me to have a bikini body and I did exactly that. This movie wanted me to be different and I did that. Even in future I'll don whatever look my film-maker wants."

Manoj Kumar's love across Borders

Bollywood veteran Manoj Kumar is upbeat about donning the director's hat once again in his golden jubilee year in the industry for an "Indo-Pak" love story.

The actor-turned-filmmaker may have moved on from the Om Shanti Om controversy, but maintains that what Shah Rukh Khan did was "dirty".

"Though I had three subjects in mind, I decided to first go with Indo-Pak: A Love Story. The film will not revolve only around patriotism. It will have a human and romantic angle," Manoj Kumar told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.

"The film will highlight that there is a lot of commonalities between the two countries. We have the same features, our food is similar and, after all, a few years ago we were one single country," said the 71-year-old actor, who was known as 'Mr Bharat' for his patriotic films like Upkaar, Shaheed and Purab Aur Paschim.

Manoj Kumar said he chose such a theme as he was born in Abbottabad, a town of the North West Frontier Province now located in Pakistan, adding that he would take a few Pakistani actors for the film.

"I was inclined to this subject since I have lived in Pakistan and now am living in India. I know the cultures of both the countries," he explained. He is donning the director's mantle after 1999 when he made Jai Hind.

Asked if he still had any grudges against superstar Shah Rukh for the spoof on him in Farah Khan's 2007 film Om Shanti Om, he said he had moved on but asserted that what Shah Rukh had done was wrong.

"Shah Rukh did a dirty thing. When I reacted he then visited me, apologised and said he will remove the scene from the film, but he did not keep his promise. It was not that I get angry with people on everything, but I have to protect the image of Manoj Kumar. Later when he removed the scene, I dropped the matter," Manoj Kumar said.

"It's been two years and now I don't have any grudges against him. He is just like a younger brother to me," he added.

Manoj Kumar had objected to the spoof on him in Om Shanti Om and filed a lawsuit to get the scenes deleted, but the issue was later settled out of court.

Manoj Kumar said he would like to cast new faces in his new venture though he likes Aamir Khan best among the current lot of heroes.

"I like Aamir's work and I'm particularly happy that he is doing less and only meaningful work, but for my film I want fresh faces," the Padma Shri awardee said.

"I am negotiating with a few actors, but nothing is confirmed as of now. I have decided to take one or two actors from Pakistan for the film," he said.

Asked if he would like to act in his film or take up other acting assignments, the yesteryears actor said: "I will never impose myself on a script. If there is a suitable role for me in a film, then I will do it; otherwise I won't push myself into it."

"As far as signing any other film is concerned, I have always been very focused about the kind of work I want to do. In 50 years I have worked in only 42 films. I have always believed in quality and meaningful cinema and not quantity. If I get something like that, I will do it," he added.

Hrithik and Suzanne to walk the Ramp at IIFA

Hrithik Roshan and his wife Suzanne will walk the ramp for the first time together for sister-in-law Farah Ali Khan at the IIFA Fashion Extravanganza in Macau during the IIFA weekend being held from June 11 to 13.

Sonam Kapoor will be the show stopper for designer Anamika Khanna.

The fashion extravanganza has been organised on June 12.

Proceeds of the event will go to the IIFA Foundation as part of charity to support film industry workers who have been adversely affected during production of films.

The star-studded night will see leading designers like Rocky S, Manav Gangwani, Anamika Khanna, Farah Ali Khan and Hong Kong designer Chris Chang showcase their designs.

Meanwhile, It was also announced thatAishwarya Rai Bachchan and AR Rahman will be presented with the IDEA IIFA award for outstanding contribution by an Indian in International Cinema.

The Fashion Extravanganza will be hosted by Zayed Khan and Sophie Chaudhary. International singing sensation Peter Andre will perform at the event which will be held at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.

'Barbie' Bebo Apes Katrina Kaif?

Kareena Kapoor will also sport a "Barbie doll-look" in the action thriller. We wonder if, she is following in the footsteps of competitor Katrina Kaif who was recently selected as the Indian face of the new Celebrity Barbie.

Katrina's make-up artist Mallika Bhat says that apart from looking ultra glam, she will also sport a "Barbie doll-look" in the action thriller.

"One of Kareena's looks in the film is inspired by Barbie doll," Bhat told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.

"One day, while on the shoot, she came out of her vanity van and was ready for her shot. She was wearing a baby pink tube top with a white skirt and I gave her a creamy baby pink lipstain (colour) for her lips. Her hair was straight - and as soon as I saw her, I told her how much she looked like Barbie doll," she said.

In Kambakkht Ishq, which is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kareena stars alongside superstar Akshay Kumar who plays a Hollywood stuntman. It also stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.

According to Bhat, Kareena's different looks in the film have a lot to do with the progression of her character.

"At first she has a plain Jane look, followed by a cute girl-next-door look and then she ultimately turns into an ultra-glam diva as she plays a model in the film," she said.

Bhat said that Kareena has been made to wear minimum make-up and tied ponytails for the first part of her character, while she leaves her hair open and sports little gloss for her second look.

But later Kareena's eyes are well accentuated with different colours, she added.

"For her glamorous look, I used metallic liners in colours like charcoal, blue, green, grey and played around with a lot of shimmer on her eyes. But what remained permanent for Kareena throughout the film was the creamy baby pink lip colour that I have not used on anyone yet," Bhat said.

Bhat, who was responsible for Deepika Padukone's Chinese looks in Chandni Chowk To China, says Kareena too loves slipping into the glamorous look.

"She is a girl. Like every other girl, she enjoys getting ready and so I guess she enjoyed slipping into the glamorous character. She liked to get ready for it like any other girl her age would have," she said.

Coupled with Bhat's make-up techniques, Mumbai-based hairstylist Pompy Hans worked on Kareena's hair for the film.

"She has such a glamorous role in the film. I tied her hair into neat ponytails for her first look, gave her simple and straight hair for her second and then experimented with a layered haircut, a nice bouncy blow dry on her hair and even coloured her hair copper, mostly dark blonde tints for her model-like look," Pompy told IANS.
