John Abraham gifted girlfriend Bipasha Basu a house full of lights

Bipasha Basu took off to spend some quality time with boyfriend John Abraham, who is shooting in London. But before she did, he arranged for a beautiful house-warming surprise for her.

The actress, who has just moved into her newly done-up place, says, "John bought all the chandeliers and beautiful light fixtures that I had liked from all over the world and put them up all over my apartment. He had planned all this with my interior designer Ahsan and made the payments before he left for London." The actor is shooting for Abbas Tyrewalla's 1-800-Love Story in London.All lit up
Bipasha is very touched by her beau's gesture, "John knew how much effort and time I had spent in choosing each and every item in my home after six months of research after going through many catalogs and videos from all over. All my chandeliers and light fixtures are from Italy and Spain, there's even one in the bathroom. It was amazing to see all the chandeliers lit up!"

John had bought the home accessories without her knowledge and with Ahsan's help. On July 29, the actress had her griha pravesh and that's when she saw all the trouble John had taken. "I was surprised totally. I am so excited with my gift. I have to plan now what to give John for his home."

Spending time with John
The actress will spend time with John briefly before flying to the US to join Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif for the Bollywood Meet And Greet show with fans in USA. "They are just appearances in Houston and Chicago and no singing or dancing is involved."

Kabir saw about 500 kids, and then he saw this one and he told me that he’s found a child who looks like a mix of John and me. I didn’t believe him, but when I saw the child, I was quite surprised, because he did have some resemblance.” Well dear, you better watch what you say. We don’t think Sallu bhai will be too thrilled to hear of this new good-looking family. And with our dude Johnny Bravo playing papa... No way! Sallu, huffing and puffing already, huh?

Katrina cracks a Joke on John!

While John Abraham has been limping with a fractured foot during the promotional campaign of New York , his co-star Katrina Kaif is not missing a chance to pull his leg, not literally though.

After promoting the film in Delhi earlier this week and making a hush-hush trip to Ajmer to pray for the film’s success, Katrina was in Bangalore on Wednesday, along with the other stars of the film – John, Neil Nitin Mukesh and director Kabir Khan .

John, who’s been hobbling around on a crutch ever since he injured his foot on the sets of Hook Ya Crook , became the butt of Katrina’s joke when he was asked the cause of his injury.Katrina replied on John’s behalf: “Well we had a fight, but since I am a little stronger this is what happened to his leg. If he picks a fight with me again, the same thing will happen to his other leg also.”

John took the joke sportingly and said the doctors have advised him not to put weight on his injured leg for two more weeks.

Speaking about the film, the actors said ‘New York’ is basically about the bonding between three friends while 9/11 forms the backdrop of their story.

‘New York’ releases on June 26. It is the first Yashraj Films release of the year.

John’s nu-de scene in New York not on the lines of Dostana”

Are you happy with the release date of New York and the promotions?
Our first trailer came out very early during Rab Ne Bana Do Jodi which was well received by people. The film was ready two months ago but the strike delayed it. I became very impatient, restless and felt irritated as I was very confident of the film and wanted to get it out. I am happy that we didn’t have to introduce the film to the audiences from the scratch as people had already seen its trailer and liked it. If the film is good people will like it irrespective of its promotions and release date. We are the first big film of the year.

New York has the backdrop of 9/11?
New York is a story of 3 friends and how their chemistry changes post the attacks of 9/11. John and Katrina play American citizens of Indian origin while Neil is an Indian studying in US. The two take Neil under their name and he starts seeing US through their eyes. The story spans across 9 years..from 1999 to 2008. 9/11 happens and how that turns their life upside down. Our film’s last day of shooting coincided with Bush’s last day of presidency, it was very symbolic as New York deals with looking forward and moving on.

The film seems topical given the recent racist attacks happening against Indians in Australia?
These events don’t leave you untouched. The world changed post 9/11, 26/11, post Obama became the president of US. These events altered our mind sets, our psyche. NY deals with the situation of Muslims in US post the WTC attacks. Comment
The film is about prejudice flowing both ways, how perceptions change. Its about how Muslims started reacting to what was happening against them and how the western world was looking at the Muslims. The film is thrown open to debate.

Did you go experience the trauma yourself?
My name is Khan! I don’t want to portray myself as a victim but I went through an irritating aspect of post 9/11 paranoia. FBI stopped me three times on random checks because of my name. I don’t blame them as its not just my name, my passport too had details of my visits to Afganistan, Iran. Even during the course of this film. I was denied visa twice as a director.

You have touched a sensitive topic. Any apprehension about the film running into controversy?
Research is my forte, I am documentary filmmaker. Our Indian audience are happy with illogical content they watch in films but the moment you give them something realistic they get a microscope but its good. My film will provoke the audiences to think. The censor board has given a straight U/A. It has John’s nude scene in it.
John has done it post Dostana so many think he wore a little chaddi in that film and now he is without it! The context in which his scene has been shot is very dark and humiliating chapter based on facts which illegal detainees go through. Its a planed process of humiliation, to torture these people and stripping was a part of the context. It was stripping them off their dignity. Its not on Dostana terms.

NY is Katrina’s first Yash Raj film
The way she has portrayed Maya in the film, I was blown away. It is Katrina’s first film in this kind of real cinema. Katrina is the surprise factor of New York, look, performance and the way her character breathes onscreen, she is superb.

I won't mediate Between Kat and Bips: John

It's a well-known fact in the film industry that Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu can't see eye to eye. Almost similar is the case with John Abraham and Salman Khan. But the film New York has done something unusual in these Bollywood relationships.

This film has brought Katrina Kaif and John Abraham so close to each other that the grapevine has been abuzz with rumours of an affair between them. Both are all praise for each other, and say that they had a gala time while shooting together for the Yash Raj film directed by Kabir Khan.

As expected, there was no love lost between John's New York co-star and his long-standing girlfriend Bipasha Basu.

So will John play the peacemaker between his two leading ladies?

We asked John during an interview and this is what Dostana's hot dude had to say, "I am not here to play the role of a mediator. Bipasha is a grown up, mature woman. So is Katrina Kaif. They are both experienced enough to sort out their own issues. I was there to play the character assigned to me in the film and not to act as a mediator between Katrina and Bipasha."

On being asked if Katrina was initially apprehensive interacting with him, he said, "She felt bit awkward in the beginning but later we got along very well. We had a blast while shooting for the film."

Interestingly, even Katrina doesn't seem keen to bring John and Salman any closer. The leggy lass echoed the same concerns as that of John. Katrina said, "I don't think anyone needs to play the role of a pacifier for anyone. We are all adults. If we feel the need to sort out our problems, we will do it on our own."

Talking about her experience of working with John and Neil, the actress said, "We all got along pretty well with each other. Everyone had his or her own space and we were comfortable in that. I compliment the director of the film, Kabir Khan, for such a congenial atmosphere."

John Abraham losing His Interest In Bipasha Basu

You thought that it was over between Kat and Sallu bhai, Noways! says this 'it' couple of Bollywood. But with recent bonding between John and Katrina and reports of Salman Khan throwing out Katrina's stuff from his house made it quite obvious.

However, going by the statements that the couple is making, it seems all's well in the Kat-Sallu paradise.

Now that it's confirmed that Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan have officially called off their four-year-old relationship, the pretty actress has nobody to answer to.

According to reports, earlier Katrina was very choosy about picking up roles or befriending any of her male co-stars if her boyfriend Salman had an objection to them.

But now, apparently Kat is able to lead her life the way she always wanted to and was recently spotted partying with her New York co-star John Abraham. We all know that John is not a friend of Salman.

If rumours are to be believed then the equation between John and Katrina has changed and the two are reportedly exchanging a lot of smses and calls after the shoot.

Katrina Kaif Bonds well With Salman’s Worst Enemy

Now that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have broken up, Katrina heaved a sigh of relief as she does not have to answer anyone. Earlier when she gelled well with any of her co stars, she was answerable to Salman Khan but now she is free to mix up with any guy. When she starred with Akshay Kumar, Sallu raised question. B-Town is abuzz with rumours of this new dosti between Sallu's ex and his foe. Sallu has 'proof'

Sceptics might question the timing of these rumours as the film is ready for release and pass it off as nothing more than a publicity gimmick. But Salman Khan's camp insists that the actor has proof that his arch enemy and his ex are in touch with each other. Khan is known to keep tabs on his ex-girlfriends.

And he is doing the same with Kat. Reveals a source close to the actor, "Salmanbhai got hold of Kat's mobile bill and saw many calls and SMSes made and received between John and her." One explanation could be that the pair is in touch as the film is ready for release but you can't argue with a jealous boyfriend (ex or otherwise).

Running scared

Salman is said to be furious at Kat's alliance with the man he considers an enemy. Katrina is now running scared. Even though she is no longer with him, she needs Sallu professionally. Although she has been telling people that she is no longer his girlfriend, she cannot afford to rub him the wrong way and expect to survive in the film industry.

The source continues, "Everyone in the industry is talking about this changed equation between Kat and John. There will surely be repercussions to this new development." Salman is known to be territorial about his gals, years after they've gone of his life. So the big question is: What happens next?

While Katrina and John remained unavailable for comment, a friend of Abraham rubbishes these rumours, "There is nothing going on between him and Katrina. He is just being targeted by someone. The truth will come out soon."

Luckily, for Ranbir... his word was enough
It is believed that when the rumours of Katrina and Ranbir first appeared, Salman called up the Saawariya boy and asked him if he and Kat had something going on. Kapoor assured him that he was serious about Deepika and that he wouldn't dream of cosying up to Salman's girl. Luckily for him, Khan chose to believe him.

John to do love scenes with Director's wife in 1-800-Love

After director Sam Mandes' spectacular spousal success directing his wife Kate Winslet in the richly resonant Revolutionary Road in '1-800-Love' John will be romancing his director Abbas Tyrewala's wife.

And he is cool about it. "I know Abbas and Pakhi well. They make a beautiful couple. There's absolutely no awkwardness about doing a love story with the director's wife.

Pakhi has co-written the script and knows her character and mine, in and out. She's an unknown face and extremely pretty. These are her biggest advantages. A beautiful woman whom the audience hasn't seen."

John is dead serious about this project. "I'm going to sit on script readings with Abbas, do workshops and rehearsals with Pakhi, just like Abbas did with the cast in Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. 'm hungry for acting challenges.

But most of the time my physicality comes on much too strongly on screen. People haven't really seen the performances I'm really proud of, like No Smoking, Kabul Express, Zinda and My physicality always takes precedence. But you know what? I'll change that. I've been in this industry only five years. People have started looking differently at me after Dostana. The body was talked about. But when they praise my performance it really feels good."

Where next? "Nagesh Kukunoor's Aashayein. I'm very proud of it.Yes, it has been delayed. There's a problem between Reliance and Percept that needs to be sorted. We're working on a solution.

Aashayein is a beautiful film and we have to release it. Another film I'm really excited about is Kabir Khan's New York. I know I've got it right this time.

Kabir says so. It's an awesome film. And I'm thankful to Aditya Chopra for showing faith in me at a time when I didn't have Dostana."

John describes himself as an off-roader. "I travel my own road. Like I'm doing Abbas Tyrewala's 1:800 Love. When he offered me that film he was directing Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. The film's producer Madhu Mantena had Ghajini in the making and I was doing Dostana.

By God's grace we all have a success on hand. So we're a proud team and very comfortable with. Aashayein. It's my intense love story and it's such a wonderful space to be in. Before Dostana I was only doing films that kept me within my comfort zone. Now I'm going to test myself as an actor as much as possible."

When questioned whether he would feel any awkwardness directing love scenes between his wife and John, Abbas Tyrewala said, "I hope not! If I can't remember they're acting then I lose the moral ground to ever a direct a girl in a love scene. Luckily I've never written explicit love scenes in my film.

The only explicit love-making scene I've conceived was for Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool.

That apart I like my writing to be benign. It doesn't matter whether my wife is acting or not. I can't forget my parents will be watching my film."
